UPDATED MARCH 16th, 2013.
What is the Magic Number?
The Magic Number is the total combined number of points United must secure, OR their closest title challenger must drop, in order for them to win their 20th league title.
For example, a Magic Number of 9 would mean United would need two wins (there's 6 of the 9 points) and a loss by the 2nd place team (there's the final 3 of the 9 points) to win the title.
Another example: with a current Magic Number of 12, if United win 4 of their last 9 games (securing 12 points), Abu Dhabi FC (the current 2nd place team) could not win the title even if they win all of their remaining games.
